3 signs your loved one is suffering in a nursing home

No one wants to find out that their loved one has been mistreated in a nursing home. Unfortunately, many people are mistreated and end up with injuries as a result of the behaviors of those around them.

If your loved one shows signs of injury, they could be a victim of nursing home abuse. Here are three common problems that you can monitor your loved one for.

1. Repeated falls

One of the things you should look out for is signs that your loved one has fallen. One fall could be normal, especially when no one is aware that your loved one is unstable. However, if there are repeated incidents, then something isn't right with the standard of care your loved one is receiving.

2. Bedsores

These should signal that something is wrong. If your loved one develops bedsores, it means they're not moving or being moved enough. The pressure from the weight of their body on the same area of the skin means that no circulation is occurring. This can lead to tissue death. Bedsores can become life threatening, so it's vital to get them attended to.

3. Overmedication

When nursing homes don't want to deal with patients, overmedicating them is one technique used. If you notice that your loved one is dazed or sedated when you visit, you should talk to nursing home staff and find out what medications they are giving your loved one.

These are three problems that could arise in a nursing home. If any of them occur, it's wise to start looking into your legal options.

John J. Hopkins: From Working Iron To
Representing Those Who Work

ALTON —Like any successful trial lawyer, John Hopkins knows the importance of preparation. But he usually doesn’t write out the questions he plans to ask witnesses in depositions or in court.

View Article “I like to react to what the witness is saying—not only what they’re saying, but how they’re saying it,” Hopkins says.
