Child ejected in serious crash in Illinois

Two children were badly hurt in a car accident in Illinois, while riding with a woman from Nashville. Their relationship with the woman is unclear, though reports do not list them as family members.

The woman is 33 years old, and she was behind the wheel of a 2002 Cadillac Deville. The two kids were riding in the car. A boy and a girl, they are both 5 years old.

As the car went down Illinois 15 at approximately 7:20 a.m., it apparently drifted out of the lane and off the roadway. This happened on the right side of the road.

The driver attempted to correct the car's path and get back on the road, but only succeeded in driving over the pavement and off the left side. The car smashed into a guardrail and then slammed into a tree.

The young girl was injured and had to be hospitalized. The boy was actually thrown from the car, due to the fact that he did not have his seat belt on.

The woman driving allegedly was not wearing a seat belt, either. She's facing charges for that, along with charges for not ensuring that the young children were properly belted in.

Illinois State Police responded to the crash and closed down the highway for more than two hours while they investigated the wreck.

Were your children injured while riding with another adult who turned out to be a negligent driver? Perhaps it was a babysitter, a teacher or someone else who you trusted to be in charge. If so, it's important for you to know all of your legal options.

John J. Hopkins: From Working Iron To
Representing Those Who Work

ALTON —Like any successful trial lawyer, John Hopkins knows the importance of preparation. But he usually doesn’t write out the questions he plans to ask witnesses in depositions or in court.

View Article “I like to react to what the witness is saying—not only what they’re saying, but how they’re saying it,” Hopkins says.
